That’s why we’ve developed an innovative solution for protecting blades during the delicate shot peening process: polyurethane rubber protections manufactured using a cutting-edge production technique.

Jet engine blades are subjected to extreme thermal and mechanical stresses during operation. Shot peening is a crucial process to improve fatigue resistance and extend the life of these components. However, to perform this operation, the delicate surfaces must be protected from damage.

The protections we have created for our client have been designed to offer the highest level of protection and durability. Here are the features that make them unique:

  • Material: We have chosen a specially formulated polyurethane rubber to resist abrasion and the chemicals used in shot peening processes.
  • Production technique: Instead of using traditional mechanical machining methods, we have opted for resin vacuum casting and molds created using Additive Manufacturing. This technology allows us to:
    • Increase flexibility: We can quickly adapt the protections to new geometries and dimensions.
    • Reduce production times: Additive Manufacturing simplifies and speeds up the mold creation process.
    • Achieve greater precision: 3D printed molds guarantee an excellent surface finish.
  • Quality control: Each protection undergoes rigorous quality control, is ultrasonically cleaned, and identified with a unique code to ensure traceability.
